Solar Powered Attic Fan

The Remote Mount PV Panel Option is available for all our fans. It’s primary purpose is to make an existing penetration or hole in the roof usable, regardless of it’s orientation to direct sun exposure. Most often, the advantages of using an existing roof penetration outweigh the small added expense of a remote PV Panel. This is not always the case. The location of the ventilation also plays an important role in over all effectiveness of the fan. For example, as initial heat loading will always take place at the highest point in the attic, using an existing opening 20' below the ridgeline is not going to ensure proper ventilation.
The Remote PV Panel comes equipped with 15 ft of shielded wire and should be mounted on the roof or wall where it will have maximum exposure to the sun. Generally on the south or southwest side of the home. Preferrably at or near the peak to prevent shade potentials from affecting the output. Wire length up to 50 ft can be added but use no less then 14 gauge fine stranded automotive wire, as increased line resistance can occur. In many cases, it is advantageous to elevate the PV Panel as air-flow under the panel will maximize its efficiency. Installing the PV Panel at an angle oriented to the sun will also increase output. Because of the variety of roof pitches and roofing materials, as well as the unique position of the roof in its environment, the way these goals are accomplished will be a matter for specific design. In the past, various sizes of aluminum tubing and threaded lag bolts have been utilized.
